How optimistic are you about VR?

It’s been and still is a very long journey for VR to reach wide adoption consumer facing applications. The big promise that soon we will all live in an extended reality so far did not come true. That might soon change with Meta’s massive investment in hardware (Quest Pro revealed earlier this year is exciting), but until now the focus lies on enterprise and solving real problems and not entertainment.
immerse Global Summit Miami that I recently visited exhibited a handful of interesting use cases from software development to plane engineering and medical training.
I enjoyed the possibility to try them out not for fun, but in order to imagine how these applications would work as an everyday gadget that is useful and saves money. While the tools and UX are still somewhat clumsy, the navigation felt quite intuitive and the immersive quality of experience definitely exciting. For now, some very specific solutions seem to pave the way: training and onboarding. Here, VR is only used for a short term (finite amount of time spent) and with a clear goal to showcase and let employees experience and better understand specific aspects of their job. Let’s see what comes next!
